Not Guam, Houston

So, coming back from Colorado, I started coughing, then fever, then body aches. Ugh, upper respiratory infection, my old friend. I decided not to stuff myself into a big metal tube, turning myself into a literal airborne vector (all credit for the joke goes to my brother A, lol).

As I started recovering, I began thinking about my next planned trip, to see my sister L. Knowing that her employer’s company is going through a rough patch right now , I asked her if she’d like to postpone my visit, and she agreed, so I began thinking about what to do with my free time until walk o’clock.

I laid out all of my gear and went through a checklist, than went out to REI for some items, and fast tracked some things from Amazon.

I headed out to the Grapevine Meow Wolf, to give it a try, and it was just as fun and surreal as Denver, though markedly smaller. I will say though, that Grapevine’s storyline does seem to be stronger.

At that point, I had a choice. Closer beach location, or adding a third Meow Wolf to my scorecard. After browsing options for Puerto Rico, Hawaii, and the Virgin Islands, I decided that my beach vacation could wait until after winter, so I was left wondering which MW to visit.

You may be able to guess, based on the title of this post, that I chose the Houston one, lol, but New Mexico and Nevada were strong contenders. The only reason I chose Houston, is because I could drive there relatively easily. I set up a hotel reservation smack dab in the middle of downtown Houston for a weekend, and got to driving.

I started midday Friday, to avoid traffic, and got there in the evening. I had some really good Cajun pasta at a nearby restaurant, and spent some time coming up with an itinerary, mostly using Atlas Obscura like I had with Colorado.

Plans set for the weekend, I turned in, though the street noise of a downtown Friday didn’t help, lol.
