Part one of my Colorado Vacation!

I decided to see my Coloradan family before going out on the trail, both because I haven’t seen them in a long while, and because I’ve never seen Colorado.

I started off in Denver with my dad, and we started off with a drive around the mountains. We drove through amazing scenery, saw Red Rocks amphitheater, and saw the South Park Coney Island Boardwalk which was unfortunately closed for the winter. However, there is an amazing store next to is that sells things from local artists and craftspeople, and I picked up some souvenirs. I also learned that a “south park” is a particular geological feature, and not just a tv show or video game :-p

The next day I spent looking around Denver, seeing lots of utterly unique shops. I was about to add “that you won’t find in DFW”, but to be perfectly honest, I haven’t looked, lol. As many people last week, both family and strangers, said “how do you know about all these places‽” to which I reply “I googled ‘weird Colorado’ and went there”, and “you’ve done more tourist stuff in half a week than I’ve done in [insert time period]”.

Ritualcravt, Terrorium, Rocky Mountain Punk.

I then spent the rest of the day at Meow Wolf Convergence Station. There really aren’t enough words to describe what it is like. Imagine one of those “touch and play” type museums. Now make it a modern art museum. Now make all the art themed. Now add a story. Now make it 3 stories tall. Now make it interactive. Now make so that after you leave, more information is unlocked, so that a whole new experience is available next time you go.

I’ve said this to everyone I knew, and quite a few people that I don’t, that that place is one of the most special places I’ve ever been.

One of the places I was most excited to see, I forgot to take a picture of the outside sign, which is a shame, but the food was delicious! It’s called Linger Eatuary, the name created by not lighting up the “O” or “M” and modifying the “o” and “r” of “Olinger Mortuaries”. Linger Eatuaries is a restaurant where there used to be a morgue where Buffalo Bill’s (not from Silence of the Lambs ;-p) body was stored, while Wyoming and Colorado fought over who got the honor of burying him. The water was served in old formaldehyde bottles!

After that, I drove up to Boulder, to see a teahouse that was handcrafted in Dushanbe Tajikistan and shipped to Boulder as part of a sister cities agreement. I like tea, in a dilettante/neophyte way, but the history and the building itself that brought me there. Don’t get me wrong though, the ambiance and the tea was awesome, and I wish that I had had more time so that I could have eaten there as well!

I also saw Saul the giant sticker ball! Atlas Obscura didn’t have hours, but it said that it’s usually available on weekdays and that you could add to it, and the sticker company’s website has literally nothing about it. Got a picture though 🙂

Part two tomorrow!
